Finding a safe place to be heard and receive therapy as a black woman can be difficult. In many Black households, mental health is not a common topic of conversation. The unfortunate reality is that Black people have a long history of trauma as a result of a lack of access, education, institutional racism, and poverty, which we’ve normalized to the point that we don’t seek mental health treatment. As a result, we develop strong barriers and toxic traits to either cope with our feelings or protect ourselves from others. That’s why it’s important to seek help and discover tools that can help you heal your inner trauma and grow into a better version of yourself. So, we’ve created a list of three podcasts that can help you learn more about mental health and effective ways to heal.

Therapy for Black Girls

Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed therapist in Atlanta, Georgia focuses on friendship and assisting women in establishing healthy boundaries. Her podcast, Therapy for Black Girls, on the other hand, covers a wide range of themes from various therapists. Topics include getting better sleep, finding support in recovery, navigating the workplace as Black women, improving communication skills, and more. Aside from her show, Dr. Joy started ‘Three for Thursday’ – a virtual town hall meeting where women can submit their questions and get answers, or just vent. Black Girls Heal

Sheena Tubbs, a licensed therapist, uses her podcast platform to provide resources for dealing with trauma, codependency, attachment, love addiction, love avoidance, and other issues. Sheena consistently releases content that promotes true self-care, whether it’s monthly lessons, challenges, tools, or workshops. The most important aspect of the ’Black Girls Heal’ podcast is learning to love yourself before giving your time and energy to others.

Black Girl in Om

Black Girl in Om is a wellness podcast with a spiritual focus, hosted by Lauren Ash. This podcast includes helpful guided medicines, candid dialogues, words of affirmation, and more to assist Black women become more aware. Through “transformations, spiritual awakenings, consciousness shifts, and intergenerational healing occurring within the diaspora,” Ash is determined to assist listeners in finding inner peace.

Healing is a long process with a wonderful payoff. No matter what kind of trauma you’ve experienced, there’s a therapist for you. There is nothing wrong with seeking therapy. You are so deserving of gaining the tools that will help you become a better you.
