Ex-Minneapolis Police Officer, Thomas Lane has plead guilty to aiding and abetting manslaughter in the murder of George Floyd. He was previously convicted of federal civil rights violations. Lane has agreed to a 3-year sentence, which he will serve simultaneously with his federal sentence. Lane accepted the plea deal after Derek Chauvin, the main perpetrator in Floyd’s murder, was sentenced to more than two decades in prison.

The plea comes just a week before the 2 year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder. Floyd died after officer Derek Chauvin, assisted by Lane and Tou Thao pinned him to the ground with his knee on Floyd’s neck despite Floyd repeatedly saying he couldn’t breathe. The 9 1/2 minute restraint was captured by a bystander on video.

The other officers involved, J. Alexander Kueng and Thao, are set to go to trial in June on other state charges.
