Davido spoke to Trevor Noah on his global success as an artist and the importance of support from the diaspora. With his career having started in New York/ Atlanta, Davido understands the power of your own people supporting your ventures. For the longest time, Africans have looked to other countries for music inspiration. The narrative was that they had to sound like certain American mainstream artists. However, a few years back, Nigerian artists developed a sound that set them apart from the rest known as Afrobeats, and the rest was history. “

Davido mentioned when he was in college at Alabama University, he was playing Afrobeats in his dorm room. Telling his mates, it would be the biggest genre in the future.
