While PFW is ongoing, the MEFeater team looked at the wildest & most covetable trends that graced the Ready-To-Wear runway for SS18. There were so many stand-out moments in New York, London & Milan that projected the future fashion is diving into but Fashion Week left us with an ode to an era that we all fondly remember for its fun and frivolous style. More on that trend below.

Pink
Millenial pink I hear you say? Well, maybe not but pink was all over the runway this fall. Each designer had their own interpretation but y’all are going to see it everywhere next Spring! The ”ultimate visionary” Tom Ford (according to Anna Wintour at The Green Carpet Awards) kicked off New York Fashion Week with a triumphant return and a soft splash of the color on his catwalk. Brands such as Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana instead created masterful pink pantsuits. The diversity of the color was clear.
90’s
Ah, the nineties, where there were no rules! While it seems a lot of runway shows pay reference to by-gone days in fashion design, the Spring/Summer 2018 season paid a real homage to the 90’s trend with its free-spirited design. On the 20th anniversary of Gianni Versace’s death, his sister Donatella Versace marked it with a spectacular catwalk in Milan. When speaking to the press, Donatella said she was afraid to touch upon Gianni’s work until now. The ‘original supermodels’ of the decade which (Versace) included Cindy Crawford, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer walked the finale with Donatella cementing Gianni’s remembrance in true style.
Athleisure
Athleisure is a major fashion trend nowadays, especially because of brands like Alexander Wang & Fenty x Puma becoming popular in clients’ wardrobes. Designers such as Alessandro Michele for Gucci and LaQuan Smith all encaptured how you incorporate it into modern day style.
Fairytale / Debutante
Ready-To-Wear is obsessed with the fairytale/Disney theme. It injects some fun into the formality of designer wear and makes a collection more appealing to the wider market. Designers have been running with these references the past few seasons and yet they keep reinventing it. Dolce & Gabbana were regal in their runway while Philipp Plein brought about a more ‘Gen Y style.’
Fashion Accessories (Bags)
Accessories are always a feature at fashion week, obviously, but there was definitely a special emphasis on bags this season. Fanny packs are back on-trend in both traditional and more upmarket ways. Gucci has invented a version which will entice even the most glamorous street style wearer (see here). Heavy logo printing was seen in select shows which was thought to be OOD but is slowly creeping back into fashion. Watch out for ‘the triplet’ seen in picture 10 as this is not only rippling through RTW but the high-street too.
