Governor Jerry Brown has proposed funding over a ten year period to save something dear to the state of California. Salton Sea is a saline lake in the Sonoran Desert. It is nicknamed “The Accidental Sea”. The plan has faced some backlash over the steep price, which is set at around $383 million. But if the plan does not go through, the lake will be doomed by 2028.

Furthermore, residents near Salton may experience respiratory issues. Pollutants from farms can run into the lake.  “…sharp declines in water [are] coming in less than 10 months,” said Sarah Friedman, the senior representative of the Beyond Coal Campaign to the Associated Press. The decision must be made soon. In 2003, San Diego made an agreement to preserve the lake. However, that obligation is nearing its end.
