Finding a life partner is something most people hope to accomplish. Being in love is fantastic, especially within a healthy relationship. However, the honeymoon phase can’t last forever. After being in a committed relationship for a few years, you may notice that you bicker more often. You and/or your partner may become bored, causing more distance between you. Luckily, there are ways to bring the spark back to a relationship.

Whether you are still cohabiting, engaged, or married, every relationship needs to be nurtured at every stage. If you aren’t married, that doesn’t mean you can’t feel like your relationship is too routine or dull. Once you are married, it is even more important to prioritize the need for romance.

1. Date each other again.

Having regular date nights may seem like the easy answer, but even those can become mundane after a while. According to Oprah Daily, experts suggest spicing up date nights. Instead of planning a date night together, plan a date for your partner and tell them to show up. The mystery of the date can bring lust and romance back to the relationship.

When on a date with your partner, it can be easy to get into a conversation about the kids or things that need to be done around the house. We suggest leaving the boring talk at home and pretending to date your partner as if you are still getting to know them.

2. Go back to the beginning.

The beginning stages of a relationship are incredible. There is lots of passion, excitement, and desire between a new couple. Unfortunately, it can’t last forever. The more comfortable you become with your partner, the more those early-stage feelings fade. Consider revisiting the start of your relationship to rekindle the fire between you and your partner.

Returning to where you got engaged is a great idea for married couples. Something as simple as going through your wedding book can reignite the flame. Going back to where you met for the first time or visiting the restaurant you went to on your first date works great for unmarried couples looking for ways to bring the spark back to a relationship.

3. Focus on sex-free intimacy.

Spicing up your sex life may be necessary, but before doing that, think about ways to be intimate with your partner without sex. A little time without sex can allow time for you and your partner to reconnect on a deeper level. It may even remind you of why you fell in love in the first place. Cuddling, massages, and sharing secrets are great ways to initiate sex-free intimacy.

Oprah Daily also suggests being intimate but stopping right before engaging in sexual activity. According to experts, the sexual tension could bring you and your partner closer.

4. Appreciate your partner.

It sounds simple, but the routine of life can keep you from noticing all your partner does. Showing grand appreciation for your partner may make them feel more confident about their place in your life. It can be as simple as saying, “Thank you for everything you do,” or as extravagant as buying them something they’ve always wanted. If your partner has an act of service love language, consider taking on one of their usual tasks to show your appreciation.

5. Discuss your sex life.

Although sex should not be the focal point of any relationship, it is a big part of a healthy relationship. Once you’ve been with your partner for a while, it is vital to understand each other’s needs. The only way to know their needs is to communicate!

It can be awkward for some people to discuss sex with their partners, especially if you would like your partner to improve on certain things. However, discussing it and having an open mind can drastically change your sex life and bring the spark back to your relationship.

Relationships can be hard to navigate, but it’s worth it for the person you love. If you are becoming dissatisfied with the relationship, don’t be so quick to throw it away. Additionally, couples therapy is always an option!
