Black Twitter undoubtedly stands as one of internet’s longest and strongest reigning force in pop culture. Now, BET is teaming up with Twitter to put the influence under the microscope in their new study.

Often sourced, but never compensated, the ideas of Black Twitter generate much for brands and publications. Black Twitter and its influence have not gone unnoticed by Twitter itself. The company is eager to understand just how influential it truly is, teaming up with BET to launch their new project.

The study will analyze the top hashtags by examining tweets and retweets that have been posted since 2014. Results will reportedly be released next month.
